Just Do It!:

LOVE EXTRAVAGANTLY:

Howdy friends,

I am sure that I am not alone with this.

Perhaps you are in a similar position right now.

Becoming aware of the practice of someone being unjust or unfair.

Whether done inadvertently or deliberately it feels bad!

Sadly, it is a frequent occurrence.

I mean, how often have you seen someone walk on the other side?

Hey!

I wonder what the Good Samaritan would make of it!

Still, wait!

How many times have “you” failed to notice someone yourself?

Sure, I must examine myself here.

And so, this is my appeal to one and all.

Let’s begin to raise the status of those who have been short-changed in life.

Dignify those who are down on their luck.

Listen!

It’s criminal to ignore a neighbour in need.

But God blesses everyone who is kind to the poor.

Remember, mercy to the needy is a loan to God.

And God pays back those loans in full.

You see, the way we give to others is the way God will give to us.

With bonus and blessing.

So, look at this attentively.

If we are more favourably inclined, showing a tender, considerate and helpful nature.

Communicated with a warm tone of voice and a friendly physical gesture.

Having generous hands and good faith.

With so much love wrapped in care.

We bring praise to our heavenly Father.

Come-on!

Don’t brush aside anyone!

Rather, with a transfusion of God’s love, invest a positive stimulus into the hearts of many.

Let’s make them robust with life.

Oh, my!

Just do it!

Love extravagantly.

Help and give without expecting a return.

Then, we will all feel good.

Say, yes!

A Love Gift:

QUESTION OF MOTIVE:

Howdy friends,

I’m not going to go into great detail as it’s not necessary.

However, in recent days Rachel and I were desperately in need of a particular something.

Amazingly, circumstances of the day enabled others to meet our need.

For this reason we believe it was a God-given gift.

A love gift.

And we’re so thankful.

So blessed.

Still, some may wonder why we are discreet about the intricate stuff.

Well, it’s a simple case of not letting anyone know about it.

Separating a self-seeking nature from the spiritual element.

Not allowing the left-hand to know what the right-hand does.

But wait!

There’s nothing smug here!

And it’s nothing to do with a lack of coordination either!

This life principle is not just applicable to the giver but also the recipient.

If the giver isn’t seeking recognition we should honour their intent.

I mean, why tell the whole world when they have requested otherwise?

You see, wen some people help others out, they don’t think about how it looks.

They just do it-quietly and unobtrusively.

That is the way God, who conceived us in love, working behind the scenes, helps us out.

My, consider this.

When we take little credit for the good things we’ve done, God pays more attention to them.

What a reward!

In His Grip:

Howdy there,

Friends come and go.

Promises are made and sometimes broken.

You are seemingly left in the dark.

Everything is falling apart.

You may feel hopeless.

You may think you are under-valued.

Yet let me mention something of great significance.

No one can steal you from out of God’s hand.

He doesn’t loose His grip and He won’t loose His grip of you!

You are His covenant child.

His precious loved one.

 A son of light.

A daughter of day.

Your life is His plan.

He will never abandon you.

He is completely dependable.

The model of trust.

So let your weakness give way to His strength.

End your resistance.

Find solace:

Clenched in the palm of His love.

Oh, my!

Yes, yes, yes!

Listen Up:

Howdy friend,

Feeling rock-bottom?

Huffy at God?

Baffled with the process?

Narked by a number of things?

Disappointed with the waiting game?

All of the above?

It couldn’t be any worse?

Still, you’re not getting any answers.

Those words of yours appear to bounce off the clouds.

Your prayers return abandoned.

Nothing makes sense.

Maybe you have that sinking feeling.

Perhaps you feel lost.

Doomed to extinction.

Already sunk.

Will God ever appear?

Well, hold-on!

The story of Jesus walking on water has nothing to do with walking on water.

Not solely anyway!

It’s more to do with how jesus walks close to you.

He reaches in your direction.

Meets you in the middle of your questions.

Settles in the boat with you.

Then talks you out of the storm.

So give ear.

Listen, you will come through this.

Remember this truth.

He has authority over the surging waves of your life.

Oh, yes!

Make An Investment:

TRAIN UP A CHILD:

Howdy friends,

If you think you are the smartest, think on.

None of us can assume that we know it all.

At the end of the day each of us is a learner, pupil.

Simply, we all begin by learning a life-style.

Hopefully, taught with proper instruction with necessary life-applications.

However, no one enjoys being disciplined.

It always seems to cause more pain than joy.

But later on, those who learn from that discipline have peace that comes from doing what is right.

Invariably, followers of Christ are interesting individuals.

With interesting impressions.

Eagerly engaged in learning more.

We all know from experience that we need to be trained by instruction and practice.

Especially to teach self-control.

But there is much more to Christian living than making the initial decision.

Let’s not leave young followers to their own devices!

Instead, let’s point someone new in the right direction.

When they are further down the road they won’t be lost.

And even then, remember, no one should assume that they know it all.

No one ought to think they are better than they really are!

Now listen up!

It’s all about giving ourselves entirely to a specific person.

Making an investment in the lives of others.

Setting a good example.

Being sincere with serious fun.

Offering advice.

Sometimes correction.

Remaining loyal.

Showing love.

Bringing comfort.

Having patience.

Finding hope.

Admittedly it will never be all plain sailing.

Still, it should prove rewarding.

It will be a joint effort.

Characterized by extreme care and hard work.

Put in effect by nurture:

Sustenance:

Development:

Growth.

So let’s teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity.

To be mature is to be basic.

Christ! No more, no less.

Say, yes!

Heavens Cookie-jar:

Howdy friends,

So, the cupboard was bare!

Obviously there are varied reasons why the world is lacking the ability or skill to perform effectively.

Many are hungry.

So many are hurting.

Too many are lost.

Life can be complex.

Life isn’t always sunshine and lollipops.

Life can be tough.

Life isn’t always pop-corn and candy-floss either.

But wait!

There is no need to loose hope when life seems empty.

Now listen up!

When we feel down in the dumps:

Disappointingly unsuccessful:

Deprived:

Devastated:

Or deflated:

This encouragement provides a much needed hand up.

You see, our heavenly Father is rock firm and faithful.

He is persistently loyal.

All we need to remember is that He will never let us down.

He will never let us be pushed past our limit.

He will always be there to help us come through it.

How?

He sits with us when we are feeling down.

He listens to every gripe and groan.

He involves Himself in our feelings.

He responds to the contours of our emotions.

He gives a hand when we are down on our luck.

He is a blessing – now and tomorrow and always.

He never dozes, never sleeps.

He gives a fresh start when we are ready to quit.

He knows we will come through just as He planned.

He believes in us.

He sticks right beside us all the way.

Why?

We can be sure that everything we need is found in the hand of Father.

Our contentment comes from a relationship with Him.

Now, like round-eyed children reach for the goodies from heavens cookie-jar.

Receive His bounty.

Rest in the abundance of His love.

Oh, yes!

He knows better than us what we need.

I Could Have Died Like Nine Times:

Howdy friends,

I believe in the One who can make things happen.

Oh, my!

I have experienced more ups and downs than a roller-coaster.

Between the age of four and fifty-four I could have died like nine times.
Yet, my heavenly Pa has constantly shown to everyone what He can do.

I have known His back-up so many times.

In Him, there are no limits in range or scope.

His total expression is love.

Through the pain.

The strife.

The grief.

He is my praise!

He is my God!

My lungs expand with His praise.

He has done tremendous, staggering things in my life.

And He continues to do so.

Even before I started school I knew His hand of protection.

And as a teenager I had first hand knowledge of His presence.

As a young adult my life flashed before my eyes as I encountered a close shave with a scrap-yard truck.

I found myself wedged between a gate-post and a tail-gate.

In my late twenties I was given three days to live with a nine percent chance of survival.

As a young married man I endured the death of my loved one in a car crash.

It’s amazing how anyone got out of the vehicle alive.

But I did, and so did two of our friends.

But at the age of thirty I had lost my health and my wife.

In my early thirties the verge of death loomed even closer.

Life begins at forty so they say.

But from a medical perspective, for me things seemed to go down hill.

Suddenly, without warning, I was faced with an abnormality that would change my quality of life forever.

Then just three years ago I encountered another life threatening condition.

These alone are only a summary of events.

There is so much more to tell.

But listen!

Hey, I really do mean, listen!

Yes, I believe in miracles.

Over and again, I have called out, and God got me out of a tight spot.

And I still have a warm smile, no matter what.

That, surely, is a miracle itself!

Still, you know, I am living proof of the power of prayer.

No longer a slave to fear.

Sure-enough, He has freed me from my anxious fears.

I have a lust for life.

Why?

With joy in my heart and a spring in my step for every new day:

I am a child of God.

Oh, yes!

Apples Of Gold:

Howdy friends,

Having a good education is very important.

The academic grades we obtain are equally as important.

However, some things are caught rather than taught.

The qualities we hold can never be reflected by qualifications alone.

Take note of this proverbial thought:

Timely advice is lovely, like golden apples in a silver basket.

Yet know this, it doesn’t matter if we have apples or grapes:

Apricots or pomegranates.

In this proverb the teacher and student have all the qualities specified for the words to be accepted.

The verbal exchange is fluently delivered.

It’s kind and well thought out.

A congenial conversation.

At a ripely time.

Sure-enough, a message of encouragement.

Golden fruit set in silver.

Freshly beneficial to the student.

Having a positive quality of being precious and of great value.

So be in line with truth.

Gently erase errors and together learn from them.

Be an example to junior and senior participants alike.

Show them how to live in freedom.

But listen up!

Don’t focus on failure!

Instead, enable them to know their identity.

Enhance their actual relationship with heavenly Pa.

Accentuate their personality.

Recognise their distinguished character.

Help them to use their talent and ability.

Believe in their potential.

And with their God-given wholesomeness encourage them to live wisely and well.

Now, furnish a place of praise.

Come-on!

Remember, an honest answer is like a warm hug.

There’s such beauty in discovery.

Apples of gold.

Heartening stuff!

Say, yes!

New One On Me:

Howdy friends,

So there we were attending my 3 monthly follow-up appointment with my dermatologist when he prescribed for me another drug.

Yep, another drug!

This drug I had used before, but only for a very short time and in only one area near to the tear-duct of my right eye.

However, on this occasion it would be for a wider surface covering different parts of my body:

My right arm and hand:

Left arm and hand:

Scalp:

Face:

Right thigh:

And left shin.

The treatment: Topical chemotherapy.

The reason: A multitude of pre-cancerous lesions.

The length of course: A few months.

I speculate it’s a new one on you.

It was certainly a new one for my dad!

My sister-in-law too!

They had never heard of it!

What is topical chemotherapy?

Basically chemotherapy is the use of chemical agents to treat or control disease.

Topical chemotherapy means that a thin layer of anti-cancer medicine would be put directly onto my skin instead of being taken as a pill or injected into one of my veins.

And yes, you’ve guessed it, I’ll be doing it myself and at home.

We were told that because the drug does not spread throughout the body this therapy does not have any side effects that normally occur with other types of chemotherapy.

And so, with Rachel’s help, I have to apply the chemotherapy cream once a day for several weeks.

What’s more, I have to be meticulous with the treatment hence the length of time for the course.

3 weeks for my right arm and hand.

A further 3 weeks for my left arm and hand.

And so on.

Management with topical chemotherapy will make my treated skin red and very delicate for a while.

Apparently, my skin will take a week or two to heal after treatment comes to an end.

Now I realise it’s only a cream.

Some may be thinking: Why the song and dance?

Others: Why the unrestrained expression of emotion?

Many ask: Is this something and nothing?

Well, listen up!

It seems that this kind of lesion starts so small that it is recognised by touch rather than sight.

But, if untreated, the lesions could progress to squamous cell carcinoma, the second most common form of skin cancer.

I first had this type of skin cancer way back in 2011 along with basal cell carcinoma.

Unfortunately, I’m susceptible to re-occurring squamous cell carcinoma after having an aggressive form of it 21 months ago.

For those who didn’t know, the cancer spread through my right shin with a possible threat of it advancing into my lymph nodes.

It was so bad, causing one specialist nurse to approach the subject of amputation.

Thankfully that did not happen!

Yet, the healing process continues today.

Anyway, as you’ve probably imagined, as a totally blind kidney and pancreas transplant recipient the health challenges I face are wearying.

It takes resources deep within, and a clear faith.

But listen friends, I will never let difficulties define me!

Never!

Remember this, with God’s help, I have already defied medical science and the opinion of some specialists.

So, in light of this news we would appreciate your prayers.

Just knowing you are praying for us is a great encouragement.

Hey, I’m living proof of the power of prayer!

God can do it again.

We turn in trust toward Him.

Say, yes!

A Lifestyle Of Worship:

A THOUGHT TO PONDER:

Howdy friends,

You know, God deserves more than 90 minutes on a Sunday morning.

Why?

Through every part of our ordinary lives; worship should be a desire & impulse that colours our thoughts and choreographs “everything” we do.

Since living faith progresses freely from our hearts and opens our minds it ought to give sense to the course of every event and activity.

Every emotion, every interaction, every thought, every step, every detail in our lives brings delight to the heart of God.

If it doesn’t then our faith department is not certain to be or become true or real.

Just look at the choices.

We can either worship guessing in the dark, or in the clear light of day.

Listen up!

Faith and works, works and faith, fit together hand in glove.

Likewise, spirit and truth, truth and spirit, clasp each other’s hands.

Come now.

Catch the opportunities.

Reach out for the unfamiliar and the seemingly unachievable.

By giving a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty and responding to their need we bring pleasure to God’s heart.

Therefore, let’s love the Lord God with all our passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.

As we love, so we worship.

That love spills over from our hearts.

So, be engulfed completely.

Having undisturbed continuity.

Show some substance:

With a life open to God.

Give a hearty applause.

High five!

And say yes!
