Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time:

Howdy friends,

Now I know some may think I place special or excessive emphasis on my own story.

But I really do believe there is power in sharing.

Still, wait!

You haven’t heard my story?

Well, are you sitting comfortably?

Then I’ll begin.

At the age of 4 I had to come to terms with having type 1 diabetes.

20 years later as a qualified graphic designer, mental health manager and young pastor I received first-hand knowledge of what it meant to live with total blindness.

Things began to unfold in an unexpected way.

In 1990 I had to start using peritoneal dialysis due to kidney failure.

My music course at college was abruptly cut short due to receiving a call to have a kidney transplant.

A pancreas transplant too.

3 months later I was confronted with a 9% chance of survival due to sepsis.

At the age of 30 I suffered the loss of my young wife in a car crash.

3 years later I faced with courage kidney rejection.

I was back on dialysis 3 times a week.

I eventually experienced a second kidney transplant.

Just over 3 years later I met my new love, Rachel.

In our first year of marriage I tolerated permanent urinary retention.

Subsequently, I have to use a catheter 8 times a day for life.

Then I went through 2 types of skin cancer.

3 years later I had to put up with kidney stones and sepsis.

In the middle of recuperating I developed an aggressive form of skin cancer on my right shin with talk of possible amputation.

Today, I live daily with fatigue associated with stage 4 chronic kidney disease.

And I’ve still got 2 kidney stones embedded in the membrane of my transplanted organ.

Yet, my pancreas transplant of over 26 years has baffled medics.

All this and much more whilst walking a journey of faith.

But, hang on!

Sure-enough, I have known God’s back up so many, many times, too numerous to count.

With strength for every day and life eternal – beyond any doubt – I know my God, my Saviour.

He is with me in the shadows of suffering as well as health and wholeness.

And listen.

I have never lived in denial.

I acknowledge my multiple health issues.

But I trust in the certainty that Jesus has dealt with them all.

Oh, yes!
