Personal Grand Slam

Personal Grand Slam:

Howdy friends,

I admire anyone who can complete an adventurers Grand Slam, reaching the North Pole, the South Pole, and all of the Seven Summits.

It’s especially remarkable when the person or people who achieve so much are themselves, disabled.

I salute their courage and determination.

Personally, I have never had the desire to attempt such adventures, but have found myself challenged by the Grand Slam of life.

Recently, my consultant physician wrote that I was a gentleman with multiple significant disabilities.

It’s not until they are all written down in black and white that you realise how seriously bad you really are.

Listing a number from the 25 of my health conditions, my consultant went on to share my diagnosis.

Beginning with type 1 diabetes.

Then, coping with total blindness.

Living as a kidney and pancreas transplant recipient – which is well-known and documented.

And moving around with use of a wheelchair.

But some of my conditions are not so obvious.

Coming to terms with having intercurrent problems with stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease is one of them.

This is exasperated by kidney stones in my transplant and re-occurring severe infections.

Then there’s my Adrenal Gland which has gone to sleep.

My bladder which ceased functioning 11 years ago.

And being susceptible to skin cancers and lymphoma doesn’t help.

I could go on.

Yet, through it all, I have never let my medical conditions define me.

Rather, I have gained through experience.

Through the pain and sometimes despair, I have grown and progressed.

And I’m still growing and progressing – even under pressure!

Sure-enough, life hasn’t been easy.

Well, perhaps you too are facing your own grand slam right now.

Maybe you’re finding things quite a challenge.

The valley ahead seems impossible to cross.

You’re fazed by a river where the current appears very fast.

You don’t know how to handle life.

Don’t know how you’re going to carry on.

Your energy reserves are low.

But pause for a while!

Remember, God is on your side ready to lead and show the way.

Now, come-on!

Press on!

With God’s help you can conquer this.

Keep hope alive.

Let faith arise.

Listen for God’s voice everywhere you go.

Become stronger and more resilient.

One step forward.

Aim for the next level.

Then together, let’s reach for the summit.

High-five!

And say, yes!
