Cheer-up, God Is Love:

Some years ago when I was a young lad, we use to sing a particular song in Sunday School.

The words went something like this:-

”Won’t you tell me little bird the meaning of your song -
That you sing the whole day through.
The secret won’t you tell, so that I can sing as well -
And be happy just like you.”

“Cheer-up, God is love,
Cheer-up, God is love -
That’s the meaning of my little song.

Cheer-up, God is love,
Cheer-up, God is love -
If He loves me, then He must love you.”

Early in the morning – I can be heard singing in the shower.

Now, I must admit, Rachel loves my singing, but not always quite so early in the morning.

In fact, she reckons that quite often I sound like a muppet!

O dear!

Anyhow, I love singing, no matter if it’s in the shower or elsewhere.

However, only this week, whilst in the company of a workman in the dining-room at our home, I suddenly burst into one of those muppet sound episodes.

To be honest with you, I completely forgot that the workman was there.

Nevertheless, I’m led to believe that the large, expansive smile which spread right across his face, more than said it all!

Whether I’m making melodious, whining, ringing, or whistling sounds, it’s such a marvellous thing to do.

For starters, the ability to sing is given from God to us, to help us give voice with a cry, hum, roar, shout and yes, sometimes a yodel – to express our emotion of great happiness.

Admittedly, there are times when we may have cause to sing to show our strong feelings of great sadness associated with loss or bereavement.

Yet, those moments of triumph can make the sad times appear small by comparison.

And more importantly, the gift of song is given back to God, in the form of praise and worship – to help us get across our positive feelings of gratitude and love towards Him.

So friends, let me encourage you to utter with your vocal chords – giving praise to Him for what He has done, proclaiming the good news that God saves, and telling everyone about the amazing things He does.

Yes, that’s right! Let’s sing of His love forever!

Why? Because the Lord our God is with us. He is a hero who saves us.

We’ve so much to sing about – so much to shout praise!

Indeed, God’s love is meteoric, His loyalty astronomic, His purpose titanic, His verdicts oceanic.

Moreover, His love is exquisite!

For this reason, let’s sing to the Lord throughout our lives. Let’s make music to praise God as long as we live.

And know this, He happily rejoices over us, renews us with His love, and celebrates over us with shouts of joy.

 Yep, God enjoys singing too!

He especially enjoys sharing His quiet songs with those He loves.

God isn’t only our Daddy – Father – but He also renews and cradles us with motherly love.

He holds His children gently and carefully, making us calm and still, celebrating and singing because of us – and refreshing us with His extraordinary love.

 So cheer-up, God is love!

If He loves me, then He must love you.
