More Than A Celebrity:
In the course of my life – I’ve had the honour and privilege to meet and speak to quite a few widely known and esteemed people, including: The Princess Royal, Sir Ian Botham – Beefy, Sir Bobby Charlton, David Coulthard, Nicky Gumbel, Johnny Herbert, Mika Häkkinen, Eddie Irvine, Michael Schumacher, Ralf Schumacher, Sir Jackie Stewart and others.
Of course;, not forgetting Sir Cliff Richard who invited me as his personal guest to one of his concerts.
Amazing!
As I reflect on these momentous occasions when meeting such celebrities:, I can recall a couple of eventful incidents:
One day I was in a queue at a taxi rank near Paddington station in London.
I was totally oblivious to the fact that I was standing right next to the designer of Princess Diana’s wedding dress:- David Emanuel.
It wasn’t until the lady behind me; repeatedly nudged me and whispered excitedly, “You know who that is don’t you?!”
Well; to be honest, I didn’t!
Anyhow: bearing in mind, I’m totally blind – how was I to know?
On a different occasion; my friend Colin phoned me up – his intention, was to enable me to speak to someone he had just met.
Without introducing the person to me, I found myself in full conversation with someone showing interest in my day and enlightening me with the fact that he also could play a musical instrument.
Extremely baffled by the brief conversation, I became even more intrigued when the person then said goodbye and hung up!!
A little while later my friend Colin called me back.
Full of Enthusiasm he declared, “Wasn’t that good?”
He continued, “I knew that you always wanted to meet him and because I saw him hear today I couldn’t resist the opportunity.”
I replied with some hesitation, “Yes; Colin, but who was it?”
After a searching pause…, “Damon Hill!!” came the astonished reply.
Well; how was I to know?!
Friends, meeting royalty, sports heroes, pop stars and the like can be quite an event in anyone’s life.
However, meeting Jesus beats them all!
Yes:, that’s right!
He is more than a celebrity.
He is the King of Kings, whose eternal majesty surpasses any earthly sovereign.
As Saviour of the World:, His plan of action, accomplishment and purpose out perform any champion.
Taking centre stage, He is the greatest star.
He exceeds them all!!
Now listen. When it comes to Jesus; His life, death and resurrection, there is more to say about Him, than anyone you would want to meet.
